Will laws favouring sodomy over Christianity bring ‘New Labour’ to its knees?
As the debate rages on between those who support sodomy as a lifestyle versus those who are opposed on grounds of conscience – predicated upon their religious faith; there appear to me more and more views being put forth that there can be no exceptions made to faith groups allowing them to opt out of certain aspects of the recently introduced ‘discrimination’ legislation with regard to sexual orientation. “After all”, the proponents would assert, “it is a matter of law that we are considering”. The suggestion being, that the law is inviolably set in stone and therefore cannot be altered.
This concept may have been true during the dynasty of the Medes and the Persians, however law per se is not static, it is an embryonic process which is being constantly being modified to adapt to changing social and cultural conditions.
To illustrate my point, the arguments being put forth contradict supporters of evolution for instance, (the theory that everything in the universe just ‘came about’ over billions of years without any involvement of a designer or creator, Wow! Now that takes real faith to believe). On one hand supporters would argue that over a period of time we developed from ‘Primeval soup’ to intelligent, sophisticated and highly adapted animals, on the other hand however, that the law with regard to discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation is as established and permanent as the Rock of Gibraltar.
A classic example of laws coming onto the statute book and being repealed is the legislation introduced by Margaret Thatcher’s government which famously became known as the Poll Tax. It was a system of local taxation for British subjects based on an individual contributing to the cost of local services rather than just householders. It was so badly received by the public in Britain that it led to riots on the streets; the ensuing political fallout led to a revolt in the Conservative party and as a result to Mrs Thatcher’s resignation.
Twelve months of coal miners striking didn’t cause Thatcher to cave in, (excuse the pun), but the poll tax proved to be her nemesis.
Has Mr Blair and his government misread the strong feelings of the vast majority of the British people, who despite the increasingly secular and humanistic onslaught of relative and immoral values foisted on them as a result of politicians caving in to the pressure from lobby groups representing small but highly motivated, vociferous, strident minorities who will stop at nothing to foist their selfish and often wicked agendas on the lives of the majority?
Meanwhile, the greater part of the population foolishly and naively leave the running of their lives and those of their families to 650+ politicians hidden away in Westminster and who bight the very hands which feed them.
How long will it be before the natives say, “enough is enough” and we return to the ancient paths which server Britain well as an island nation from the time of Alfred the Great until relatively recently?
